US NATIONAL PARKS:
GRAND TETONS, YELLOWSTONE & GLACIER
Trip Duration: 9 Days, 8 Nights
Time of Year: Fall (Mid/Late September)
Traveled With: Just the two of us!
Highlights: Mountain ranges, beautiful lakes & wildlife sightings
Before you Go -Some Tips/Knowledge:
-This trip is VERY much a road trip & will require a car rental the whole time! See general itinerary below.
-Buy the annual national parks pass! For $80, you will gain unlimited entry to these 3 parks & many others throughout the states (vs paying daily entrance fees $20-30/day)
-You will need bear spray! Bears are very common in all 3 parks & hikers often encounter them in their journeys. It is like an intense pepper spray!! Bear spray cannot be taken on the plane & must be purchased locally. Pro tip - do NOT purchase in the main Jackson souvenir shops! We paid ~$60 in this store as one of our first stops upon arrival & later found them for $30-50 in so many local places (grocery stores, delis, etc).
-Wildlife encounters vary for every visitor, but are extremely common :) keep your eyes peeled!
-I would recommend allotting more time to Glacier, however, 1/2 the park was closed during our trip due to COVID
-To save a significant amount of driving, do not book round trip flights to 1 airport. Instead, fly into Jackson Airport (JAC) & Glacier National Park airport in Kalispell (KCA).
General Itinerary:
Days 1-3: Jackson/Grand Tetons
Days 4-6: Yellowstone
Day 7: Road Trip/ Glacier
Days 8-9: Glacier
We would have gone biking, boating or on more excursions (alpaca farm / horseback ride) but much was closed for the season or for Covid
DAY 1– jackson, wy
We were blessed with a thrilling start! We knew the Jackson airport was convenient to Grand Teton National Park, but the were surprised nonetheless with how quickly nature awarded us with her beauty! Less than 1 mile drive from the airport there were cars pulled over by a field. We knew right away this meant an animal sighting! We parked the car & followed the small swarms of travelers with excitement! We were pleased to see a moose in the distance! Not too shabby for the first 15 minutes of our trip :)
Having an afternoon flight, we expected a low-key start: exploring Jackson Hole for the afternoon, buying bear spray & stock up on groceries. We did all of those things, but with the adrenaline from our moose encounter we decided to optimize the daylight hours & pack in some extra adventure!
We fueled up with a delicious sandwich & coffee from Cowboy Coffee & checked out some shops.
We then drove to XXXXX for some scenic driving, knowing we didn’t have much time for a hike:
